What is LASIK?

What is LASIK?LASIK - standing for Laser Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis - surgery is a permanent procedure that improves vision quality. LASIK works by reshaping the cornea, and can correct vision problems like nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism.

Customized LASIK uses the latest technology to create a custom treatment for your unique vision needs. The procedure is quick and results are immediate. LASIK surgery takes about 30 minutes to complete, with little or no discomfort, and yields incredible results. Whitten Laser Eye employs state-of-the-art laser technology that reduces problems associated with the older generation of lasers, such as night vision reduction, glare and halos. Our Allegretto Wave laser is the only one of its kind outside the beltway.

LASIK surgery has been proven to have long lasting results, combined with a high degree of safety. The procedure has been available in the United States for over twenty years, and is both safe and effective. LASIK surgery is currently the most popular and successful vision correction procedure available. Most LASIK patients achieve 20/20 vision, and some results are even better! With over 30 million procedures performed worldwide, more people are considering LASIK daily!

The LASIK Procedure

The laser eye surgery is quick with little or no discomfort. Your office visit will be short, and the actual surgery takes less than 30 minutes. During the procedure, a small flap is created in the outer layer of the cornea, and then is gently lifted. A excimer (cool-beam) laser will then reshape the cornea. The excimer laser is programmed specifically for your unique vision limitations based on a pre-surgery evaluation.

The LASIK Procedure

In the final step, the corneal flap is gently returned to its original place, where it will instantly begin healing. The majority will see well immediately - Our most frequent comment is "Why didn't I do this sooner?"

Trusting Dr. Mark Whitten and Whitten Laser Eye can give you the confidence to finally make the LASIK choice. Thanks to the quick recovery time associated with this procedure, you should be back to your daily routine merely a day after your LASIK procedure. Your vision will continue to improve as your eyes heal and adjust to their new shape over the next few weeks.
